Cabarrus Quilters Guild
Guest Introduction
Welcome to the Cabarrus Quilters Guild.
The Guild currently has approximately 60 members who share a common interest in quilting. Our members have varied levels of experience and expertise. Members are friendly and willing to give advice and encouragement.
We meet regularly on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Our meetings are held at Epworth United Methodist Church, 1030 Burrage Rd, Concord, NC.
You are invited to attend two meetings as a guest, and to receive the guild newsletter for three months. After two visits, please join the guild if you wish to continue to attend.
The guild year starts in January. Membership dues are $20.00 per year. For those joining after June, dues are $10.00 for the remainder of the year. There is also a one-time charge of $5.00 for your personal embroidered name tag.
In addition to membership dues, members (except those who join after September of the current year)are expected to donate a cuddle quilt each year. Cuddle quilts are collected n November and presented to CVAN in November or December. CVAN is a local organization which provides assistance to victims of abuse and neglect. (CVAN is Cabarrus Victims Assistance Network).
Our programs include trunk shows and demonstrations of quilting techniques. Speakers include well-known quilters, local quilting teachers and members of the guild.
During the Show and Tell segment, we display our recently completed projects, and sometimes UFO's. It is a great encouragement to hear fellow quilters appreciate your hard work.
We hold a weekend retreat twice a year at the Tabor Retreat Center in Lynchburg, VA. The price for the retreat is very reasonable, and we have a great time of shopping, sewing, eating, and fun.

Projects underway for 2007:

  1. Round Robin began in February and will end in October. The owner of each project has selected her theme and fabrics and made the initial block. The whole project box is passed off to another guild member each month to add another block or more. The owner will not see what is happening to her project until October, when it will be returned to her. If you like what you see, hang around and join this activity next year.
  2. Medalion Round Robin began in February and will end in October. The owner of her project has created her center medalion and included with it coordinating fabric along with any wishes in her project box. The box is passed on alternate months. The owner will not see what is happening to her project until October, when it will be returned to her.
  3. Block of the Month is in progress for the entire year, and you may join in at any time. Each month, directions for one or more blocks are distributed, and at the end of the year, instructions will be given for assembling all of them into one quilt. Each person keeps her own blocks. Instructions for previous months are available.
  4. Mystery Quilt
  5. Challenge Quilt packets may be purchased for $5.50, subject to availability. The theme is Dreams, and the finished quilt is due at the annual picnic in August. The packet includes several pieces of fabric and rules for the challenge.
  6. Workshops are held once a month and are lead by guild members. They are free to members, and are for adults only. Workshop topics are announced in the monthly newsletter; sign-ups and supply lists for the workshops are made available at the regular monthly guild meeting.

Please ask any guild member for more information on anything you see that you are interested in. We hope you enjoy your visit to Cabarrus Quilters Guild and want to return again and again. This is a great place to make new friends and to share some exciting quilting adventures.
